Project
Planning
Planning is Crucial! Now
that you are equipped with appropriate workbench furniture and tools,
you're ready to choose a do-it-yourself project.
Before heading to the hardware store and buying materials, an important
step that will help you save time and money is to carefully draw a construction
plan for the item that you will be making.
- Draw out what your item
will look like as a whole.
- Draw out each component/part
separately, along with the desired measurements.
- Draw out how the different
parts are to be connected. Indicate all details (how many nails, screws,
where they will be placed, etc.)
- Make a checklist of ALL
the materials needed to complete this project from beginning to end.
This will help you make an inventory of what you already have and
what needs to be purchased.
Make your plan and perform
each step carefully. REMEMBER THIS RULE: Measure twice, cut once.
You can make up your own
construction plan, or look at some online plans to build various pieces
of furniture.
But before putting anything
on the workbench furniture and before beginning your cutting or hammering,
make sure that you take the necessary precautions. You are using tools
and materials that can cause serious physical harm, so be careful!
